Dr. George Soung (pronounced “Song”) was born in Houston, TX and grew up in Pittsburgh, PA. During high school, he achieved All-State honors and was selected for the Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Arts as a clarinetist. He went on to attend the Pennsylvania State University as a Schreyer Scholar where he was a member of the Penn State Rugby Team and earned his Bachelor of Science in Microbiology with Honors in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 2006.

After college, he spent 2 years in the pharmaceutical industry as a Research Biochemist at Merck & Co. before he decided to pursue a career in dentistry. Despite objections from his sister (a Duke University graduate), he decided that he wanted to experience true southern hospitality for himself and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

(Go Heels!) where he obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree, graduating with distinction in 2013. He is currently in his last year of residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Virginia Commonwealth University (Medical College of Virginia) Medical Center in Richmond, VA and will be graduating in June 2017. Dr. Soung is a member of the American Dental Association, North Carolina Dental Society, American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and The American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Dr. Soung is happily married to the love of his life and best friend, Julie, whom he met during dental school. Julie was born and raised in Charlotte, NC and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Dental Hygiene. Julie’s true passion is pediatric dentistry and working with patients with special healthcare needs—she is currently a faculty member in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at VCU. George and Julie are die hard Pittsburgh Steelers and Tar Heel basketball fans, country music fans, and amateur foodies. In his free time, Dr. Soung enjoys fishing, lifting, golfing, and watching and playing football. Dr. Soung and Julie are also passionate about volunteerism and community service and have participated in many different community outreach projects and events since their college days, in addition to Mission of Mercy Dental Projects during dental school and residency.

George and Julie could not be happier to be returning to North Carolina and are thrilled to be calling Greensboro their new home. Dr. Soung feels ecstatic and privileged to be joining Dr. Durham and is very excited about having the opportunity to serve the Greensboro community both in and out of the office.
